Ministry of Railway Enters Strategic Cooperation Deal with China Earthquake Administration

CARS and Institute of Engineering Mechanics of China Earthquake Administration offer essential technical research as the R&D vanguard.

In a bid to further enhance the ability of earthquake prevention and disaster relief on high speed rail lines and boost the level of secure operation of high speed rail lines, the Ministry of Railway and China Earthquake Administration signed the strategic collaboration agreement to jointly promote earthquake proofing on high speed rail lines on February 22, and inaugurated the Ministry of Railway and China Earthquake Administration R&D Team for Earthquake Proofing Technologies on High Speed Rail Lines (hereinafter referred to as the R&D Team).

The R&D team will be spearheaded by the CARS and Institute of Engineering Mechanics of China Earthquake Administration, whilst the 3rd Railway Survey & Design Institute Group Corporation, the Economic and Planning Research Institute of Ministry of Railway, Beijing Jiaotong University, Southwest Jiaotong University, the Earthquake Administration of Fujian Province, the Earthquake Administration of Hubei Province, the Earthquake Administration of Guangdong Province and the Institute of Geophysics of China Earthquake Administration will be the participants.The R&D team will resort to the general R&D strengths of CARS and Institute of Engineering Mechanics of China Earthquake Administration, in synergy with the advantageous research resources of the participating entities to achieve overall balance, resource integration and joint progress via the combination of industry, academia and research functions, to ensure the proceeding of the program.

The R&D team will fully grasp the basic theories on detection and contingency warning for high speed rails, establish and develop the respective criteria, and oversee the design, R&D, construction, operation and maintenance of the earthquake detection and warning system. In addition, the team will organize national and international cooperation and communications that focus on the key issues with the earthquake detection and warning system, evaluate the existing technologies at home and abroad, develop earthquake contingency system specifically for high speed rail lines, establish general data processing and analyzing center for earthquake contingency, and build demo projects for the system, in its efforts to actively promote the implementation of the systematic project for earthquake monitoring and contingency warning on high speed rail in China.
